The Perioperative Department
Mission is proud to present its new Surgical Suite providing our physicians and their patients with modern, state-of-the-art operating rooms in which a full range of surgical procedures can be performed.
The new Surgical Suite and the associated Outpatient Surgery/Short Stay Unit were constructed as part of Mission’s FEMA Hospital Replacement Project to ensure all procedures are performed in a safe and secure environment. Complementing the OR is a new Intensive Care Unit and Medical/Surgical Floor for follow-up hospitalization. Mission’s new facilities offer our surgical patients a modern healthcare environment that provides the best in high touch, high tech care.
The Surgical Facilities
Outpatient Surgery/Short Stay Unit
This unit offers ten attractive, fully equipped bay areas where qualified and experienced nurses meet with patients to evaluate their needs prior to the provision of anesthesia and the procedure.After their procedure, patients return to this unit to complete their recovery period before being transferred to an inpatient bed or discharged home.
Main Surgical Suite
The Surgical Suite is composed of three new operating rooms where patients undergoing procedures are cared for by the Surgical Team: one surgeon, one anesthesiologist, one registered nurse, and one surgical technologist. Additional staffing is provided based on the need of the patient, surgeon and surgical procedure.
The Gastroinestinal (GI) Laboratory/Special Procedures Room
is utilized for diagnostic, therapeutic, interventional, and other special procedures and is equipped with modern endoscopic equipment.
Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
The four bed PACU is equipped with a full spectrum of critical care monitoring equipment and support systems to provide continuous monitoring and treatment of patients recovering from anesthesia.
Family Waiting & Meditation Rooms
Mission provides a non-denominational meditation room for individuals seeking a quiet, peaceful environment. Additional waiting areas are located at the Hospital’s main entrance,West Lobby, and a small family room can be found adjacent to the cafeteria.

With over thirty members, Mission's Department of Surgery is proud to say that its surgeons represent the best in surgical talent in the San Fernando Valley. Our surgeons are the same professionals practicing at each of the Valley's major medical centers. Their choice to perform surgery at Mission is always well informed and clinically appropriate.
Nursing Care
Under the leadership and coaching of our Director of Perioperative Services, the perioperative team provides patients with experienced and compassionate care. The nursing staff is a highly experienced team of ACLS prepared operating room Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses and Surgical Technicians. Our GI Laboratory is managed by Lola Uribe, R.N., one of our region's most qualified and experienced professionals in the field. Our dedicated ancillary staff provide surgical scheduling, supply management and patient transportation services.

Anesthesia
Anesthesia Services are provided by Tiger Valley Medical Group, Inc. under the direction of Robin Chorn, M.D. Dr. Chorn has extensive international anesthesiology experience; he is certified in anesthesiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He holds a teaching appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California and has also practiced at Centinela Hospital Medical Center and City of Angels Medical Center. Joining Dr. Chorn
at Mission are Leon Mahler, M.D., and John Ogai, M.D.
Tiger Valley Medical Group provides a full range of services including general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, and monitored anesthesia care along with various local anesthetic and nerve blocks. Our anesthesiologists are available on a 24-hour basis for emergency procedures.
